Pastors and Staff



        Reverend Nathan Wheeler
  Interim Pastor

Pastor Nathan began ministry working with the Youth Group at First Presbyterian Church in Warner Robins, GA, along with his wife, Sherri.
He went on to seminary at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, GA, graduating in 1990 with a Masters of Divinity.
Pastor Nathan served in various positions within the PCUSA from Associate Pastor to Senior Pastor and now to Gilwood Presbyterian Church, his sixth Interim Pastor calling, and ninth Church.
The Wheeler's have lived in Georgia, North Carolina, Florida, Alabama, and South Carolina before coming back to North Carolina.
Pastor Nathan and his wife, Sherri, celebrated 32-years of marriage on April 12, 2017, and they have 3-children: sons: Patrick, and his wife, Jennifer, along with first grandson, Roman (16-months), JohnMark, and his wife, Caitlyn (married January 7, 2017), and daughter, Hannah.





Cynthia Lawing

  Music Director


Cynthia Lawing, a native of Hong kong, received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Wittenberg University, The Cleveland Institute of Music and Case Western Reserve University. She has performed throughout the United States and various countries in Asia and South America.  In additional to her performance schedule, she is in great demand as a clinician and adjudicator. Cynthia began her stewardship as a church musician at age 8, currently serving as the Music Director and organist at Gilwood Presbyterian Church in Concord.   Cynthia Lawing is a member of the Applied Music faculty at Davidson College.



Dawn Sorrentino

  Administrative Assitant


Dawn became our administrative assistant in the summer of 2016. 






Pre School Director  


                   Gwen O'Neal, Pre School Director. 


Our Director, Gwen O’Neal began teaching the first year of Gilwood Presbyterian’s Mother’s Morning Out Program in 1990. She taught a combination class of 2, 3, and 4 year-olds. The following year Gilwood established a preschool consisting of a toddler, two, three, and four year old class. She continued to teach a four year-old class, and a two year-old class. In 1993 she accepted the position of Director of the preschool, and has continued to teach the 5 day 4 year-old class. She is a member of the CRSaeyc (Cabarrus Rowan Stanley Association For The Education of Young Children), NAEYC (National Association For The Education of Young Children), and CAPPS (Cabarrus Association of Part-day Preschools).
